Environment |
Whistler Blackcomb is a company comprised of mountain-lovers who experience nature in the very place we live, play and work. As such, we have a personal relationship with our environment. It is this relationship that has made us who we are. It has defined us as a group of people. It has become a fundamental part of our character and has infused all parts of our lives. By choosing to live and work here, all of us at Whistler Blackcomb make an implied commitment to the environment. We take action. We educate. We partner. And every day, we try to go a little further, acknowledging that even the small things can make a big difference. And in the continued struggle to do the right thing, we emerge as a role model for others...to do what is right...to protect the very thing that we are closest to - our environment.
Ask us what prompted this commitment to the environment, and you will not hear that it was the threat of global warming to our industry. Nor will you hear that it was a corporate greening initiative. Nor will you hear that our customers demanded it of us. Instead, the truth comes in the form of an apology - for a diesel fuel spill in 1992 that damaged a mountain stream. It was our fault. And while it was an ecological tragedy, it was also the corporate wake-up call that has driven us to the leadership position we are in today. That one mistake acted as a catalyst for our commitment to protecting the very thing that we aspire to share with our guests -exceptional experiences in a pristine, rugged and beautiful natural environment.1.
