You want reliable snow, year over year, and consistent snowfall throughout the season, to be assured of a ski experience that delivers the goods.

Over the past ten years, Whistler Blackcomb has received an average of 10.4 metres (34 ft) of snow a year. All this natural bounty is supported by extensive snow-making infrastructure. A 270-strong fleet of state of the art snow-guns ensures increased snow coverage early and late season, and boosts the quality and coverage of our snow all winter long.

Mid-November to Late December

With abundant early season snowfall (averaging 2.4 meters or about 8 feet in November alone!), smaller crowds, some of the best prices of the season, and a wonderfully festive atmosphere as you get closer to the holidays, it’s easy to see why early season is such a great time to visit.

Early Season Details:

  • Value: High
  • Average Snowfall: 249 centimeters (98 inches) in November, 227 centimeters (89 inches) in December
  • Terrain Open: Mid-mountain piste with alpine terrain and ski-outs as snow falls
  • Featured Events: Opening Day celebration, Whistler Film Festival.

Insider Tips:

  • Whistler Mountain typically opens even earlier than planned, so be prepared at least a week or two out to get your first turns in.
  • GORE-TEX® products are best to keep you warm and dry all day long. It's especially important in the early season when we see a mixture of precipitation.

Late December to Early January

Everyone loves celebrating the holidays at Whistler Blackcomb! Our stunning resort village takes festiveness to a whole new level with an atmosphere that is pure magic, while on and around the mountains, a vast collection of amazing outdoor activities and awesome events deliver the promise of an unforgettable holiday experience.

Holiday Season Details:

  • Value: Moderate
  • Average Snowfall: 227 centimeters (89 inches) in December
  • Terrain Open: All terrain
  • Featured Events: First Night New Years Celebration

Insider Tips:

  • Get up early to beat the crowds by being in line before the lifts open from the bottom.
  • Stay up high and move around the mountain as new lifts open up on the mountain.
  • Eat smart, breaking for lunch before 11:30 a.m. or after 1 p.m. to skip the crowds.

Early to Late January

If you’re ready to take on 8,171 vast acres of stunning skiable terrain (the most in North America), including 200+ trails, powder-filled bowls, ancient glades and mile-long cruisers – all accessed by one of the largest networks of high-speed chairlifts in the world – then January at Whistler Blackcomb is an unmatched experience that’s made for you, whether you’re a first-time skier or a seasoned carver.

Deep Winter Details:

  • Value: Medium-High
  • Average Snowfall: 187 centimeters (74 inches) in January
  • Terrain Open: All terrain
  • Featured Events: WinterPRIDE, Deep Winter Photo Challenge

Insider Tips:

  • Skiing the week after the holidays is one of the quietest weeks of the season with the most terrain open.
  • Rent powder skis if you don’t have them ... you’ll need em’.

February to Late March

With the longer days of February and March, Whistler Blackcomb delivers a menu of winter fun that boggles the imagination. Explore the endless possibilities on the most skiable terrain in North America, then take advantage of the extra daylight to try some new and unforgettable adventures like snowshoeing, ziplining, heli-skiing, snowmobiling, and even dog sledding. It’s the mountain adventure of your dreams!

Mid Season Details:

  • Value: Medium
  • Average Snowfall: 158 centimeters (62 inches) in February, 248 centimeters (98 inches) in March
  • Terrain Open: All terrain
  • Featured Events: Peak To Valley Race, Roxy Quiksilver Week
  • March is Considered "Powder Month" by locals, due to the abundance of snow seen on average.

Insider Tips:

  • Mid-week skiing will always be less crowded than weekends. Plan your trip by skiing at least Tuesday through Thursday.

April to May

The longer, warmer days of spring don’t get any better than this. Who doesn’t love extended après on a sunny patio in the village, lighter crowds, and lots of amazing deals on accommodation, lift tickets and spring passes. For spring’s biggest celebration, you won’t want to miss the concerts, competitions, events and epic nightlife of the World Ski & Snowboard Festival.

Spring Skiing Details:

  • Value: High
  • Average Snowfall: 85 centimeters (33 inches) in April, 21 centimeters (8 inches) in May
  • Terrain Open: Typically only one mountain post World Ski & Snowboard Festival, with mid-mountain piste and limited alpine terrain only
  • Featured Events: World Ski & Snowboard Festival
